Malago Road

Welcome

The Watkin Jones Group is bringing forward exciting plans for high-quality purpose built managed student homes on the former Pring and St Hill site at Malago Road.

As the last application to be considered as part of the Bedminster Green framework, we want to help fulfil Bristol’s requirement for student homes while delivering wider benefits for the local community through new public realm space, granting land for a new bus lane, and an economic boost for the area.

Our vision

Our vision is to provide a more attractive, healthy, and welcoming environment along the Malago Road by enhancing the street scene and regenerating a
long-vacant dilapidated site.

We can be on-site very quickly, and our development will support the regeneration of East Street and provide a much-needed economic boost for the wider area.

We have undertaken an extensive period of public consultation with the local community. Following the consultation period and evaluation of the feedback received, we have submitted a planning application to Bristol City Council which will be considered in the coming months.

If you wish to speak to a member of the team, please get in touch via the details listed at the bottom of this page.

Our consultation

As part of our consultation, we hosted an in-person event at the Bedminster Methodist Church, British Road, BS3 3BW on Monday 25th July, 2022 from 3pm – 7pm which introduced the team, shared our proposals, and allowed local people to provide feedback and have their questions answered. The feedback received during the consultation was reflected as much as possible in our proposals.

You can read more about our community engagement here.

The site

The site is located on the Malago Road and is a long vacant brownfield site.  It was previously an engineering works foundry before this use ceased in 2003 when the factory owned by Pring and St Hill closed.

It is very well connected to public transport, only a short walk to Bedminster train station and also well located to the new University of Bristol, Temple Quarter campus.

There are also a number of shops and local amenities nearby for example on East Street and West Street and we hope to add to the local area by the provision of a new public park, tree planting along the site boundary and soft landscaping, providing a more attractive and safer environment for existing and new residents.
